The Alan and Cathy Field and Fork Pantry
Food For Thought
The Product: The Alan and Cathy Hitchcock Field & Fork Pantry welcomes all students at the University of Florida. Their mission is to create a food-secure future by providing free resources for all students and staff with a Gator1 Card.
The Problem: Students think the Field & Fork Pantry is only for food-insecure individuals, which has led the pantry to waste food.
The Solution: So we decided to make known that the food pantry at UF is free for all. To change perceptions we created Food For Thought, a digital activation that gives college students free food. It works through Wi-Fi-based location monitoring technology that leads Wi-Fi users to the Field & Fork Pantry through a pop-up.
Step 1
Students enter Marston Library, which receives 2 million visitors per year, and is next door from the Field and Fork Pantry. When opening up Wi-Fi selection, users are prompted to connect to “foodpantryuf” Wi-Fi.

Step 2
Users will receive a pop message after being idle for 1 hour in the library. They will be presented with a message about food benefits for studying students. Users have the option to click “Yes” or “No”

Click “Yes”
Maps users to the Field & Fork pantry on campus.

Click “No”
Leads users to the Field & Fork website that showcases recipes.
